Former Bears' first-round draft pick Cedric Benson, released by the team Monday following arrests for boating while under the influence and driving while under the influence, was arrested Monday afternoon for skateboarding while intoxicated, his third arrest in less than a month.
Though skateboarding makes Benson look hip, young and cool (and drinking is considered an acceptable part of its culture), Bears' general manager Jerry Angelo said it was too little too late for Benson, who was slated to start for Chicago this season.
"Cedric displayed a pattern of behavior we will not tolerate," Angelo said in a statement. "As I said this past weekend, you have to protect your job. Everyone in this organization is held accountable for their actions. When individual priorities overshadow team goals, we suffer the consequences as a team. Those who fail to understand the importance of 'team' will not play for the Chicago Bears. If Cedric wants to skate or die, that's on him."
