WR Rankings 21-30

paul greco · July 15th, 2008

The 2007 season was the year of the Wide Receiver (WR).  With six players catching at least 100 passes, 23 players with a 1,000 or more yards, and 11 with at least 10 touchdowns, WR’s in the offseason moved up the draft boards for many Fantasy owners.

With all those numbers in mind, let’s start off at the bottom and work our way to the number one WR. Here are the WR’s ranked from 30-21.

30) Hines Ward – Pittsburgh Steelers : Although Hines Ward is a great possession WR, he’s no longer the Steelers best option.  Look for a decrease in his numbers in 2008 as he’s now in a support role. Last year we saw Ward loses red zone touches to tight end Heath Miller, this year it’ll be rookie WR Limas Sweed, the tall kid out of Texas. My Projection : 851 YDS – 7 RTD’s

29) Santana Moss – Washington Redskins : Santana Moss has upside, but it’s been his inconsistent play over the years that have frustrated Fantasy owners. The WR has finished twice as one of the top-ten WR’s in Fantasy football, but has also finished outside the top-25 five times.  Moss is a decent late round pick, but don’t get caught up in the hype. My Projection : 865 YDS – 5 RTD’s

28) Joey Galloway – Tampa Bay Buccaneers : The ageless wonder just continues to defy the “Experts”.  Is this the year he finally breaks down?  I’ll be honest, Galloway is a guy I look to avoid on draft day.  To me, he’s more risk than reward.  I’d rather take my chances else where.  Oh ya, did I mention he’s 37. My Projection : 823 YDS – 4 RTD’s

27) Donald Driver – Green Bay Packers : At 33 years-old, Driver may have to adjust to a new QB for the first time in his career.  This is not good news for Driver and his Fantasy owners.  Although, over his last four seasons Driver has over 1,000 receiving yards, I just don’t see him accomplishing those types of numbers in 2008.  My Projection : 901 YDS – 4 RTD’s

26) Lee Evans – Buffalo Bills : Evans is a great homerun threat for the Bills. The problem is, when the team doesn’t throw the long ball Evans tends to disappear. On the brighter side, Evans hasn’t missed a game in four seasons.  The Bills should have more consistency at QB and that can only help Evans. My Projection : 896 YDS – 4 RTD’s

25) Greg Jennings – Green Bay Packers : The million dollar question is, “Who will be quarterback of the Green Bay Packers when the season starts?” Really, that is what will make or break Jennings season in my opinion.  I’m not so high on Aaron Rogers, but I love the fact the Brett Favre could return.  Jennings Dynasty owners, cross you fingers, because it’s going to be an interesting training camp.  My Projection : 896 YDS – 8 RTD’s

24) Wes Welker – New England Patriots :  The darling of 2007.  Welker busted onto the scene as the speedy slot receiver no one could cover.  This season though, look for teams to make the adjustment, similar to what the New York Giants did in the Super Bowl, oh wait, they couldn’t cover him either.  Welker is a decent pick, but let’s not get carried away and think that he can reproduce the numbers from a year ago. My Projection : 901 YDS – 6 RTD’s

23) Chris Chambers – San Diego Chargers : The best thing that happened to Chambers in 2007 was the trade out of Miami.  Now in a high powered offense, look for Chambers to dominant the small cornerbacks in the NFC West.  After arriving in San Diego last year, Chambers scored four touchdowns, which was four more than he scored in Miami.  Chambers should be a decent WR2 in many leagues. My Projection : 902 YDS – 6 RTD’s

22) Kevin Curtis – Philadelphia Eagles : Curtis busted out last year and finished as one of the top-20 WR’s in the Fantasy.  With four 10+ reception games in 2007, Curtis has shown he can be the go-to WR for the Eagles.  How will defense’s adjust though will be the question?  Look for more over the top covered, and Curtis will have to be able to use his hands to get off the line of scrimmage.  My Projection : 916 YDS – 6 RTD’s

21) Bobby Engram – Seattle Seahawks : Bobby Engram had five 10+ reception games a year ago, to include a 21 reception game against the Cleveland Browns. I don’t expect to see as many 10+ catch this year.  Engram is a great red zone option, but look for QB Matt Hasselback to spread the wealth a little more this season. My Projection : 921 YDS – 6 RTD’s

Paul wants to show you how he consistently wins his leagues and what he does to win them. Paul does not want to just write articles to tell you what you should do, he wants you to feel as though you are on his team.

Born: Amityville, NY -- Yes, that's right the same place as the horror show. Explains a lot huh?

Favorite Sport Baseball

Sports Played: Baseball, Soccer, Football, Basketball

Favorite covering sports moment: Getting to sit down and talk to Hall-of-Famer Duke Snider for two hours. We discussed the Brooklyn Dodgers day and their great teams, Jackie Robinson, and him being amongst the best OF'ers of his time. What a great man!

If I was an athlete I would be like: Michael Jordan. This was a guy that took basketball to a whole new level. Larry Bird and Magic Johnson were great for the NBA, but Jordan rose above the game and his influence can be seen in many of today's great players.
