So far this season, if you're like me, you've experienced the ups and downs of being a Fantasy Owner. There have been several top Fantasy players that have flopped, and if you've been a waiver wire genius you've probably enjoyed the pickups of Edison Volquez, Edwin Encarnacion and Cliff Lee. What makes those pickups important to you is how you've mastered the information highway. Staying ahead of the competition is part of your diabolical plan to winning your Fantasy League and RotoHog. Schedule watching, pitching rotation and keeping an eye on those streaky players adds extra cash flow to your portfolio as you add and subtract players on a daily basis. You're the master of your domain. Without the information at your finger tips though, all the above wouldn't be possible. That being said, here is the latest information to help your RotoHog team as well as your Traditional team move forward: —3B Alex Rodriguez is hoping to be back in the lineup next Tuesday against Baltimore. Rodriguez, who has been on the disabled list since April 30 with strained right quadriceps, might play in extended spring training games this weekend. Rodriguez can only help once he comes back, but don’t expect him to run much once on the base path. —LF Luke Scott hit a three-run homer and had two other hits as he raised his home batting average to a lofty .385 at Oriole Park. Scott had a total of three hits in his previous seven games combined. Home is the only place Scott hits, so keep that in mind in daily leagues. —OF J.D. Drew had to leave Tuesday night's game and is considered day-to-day after suffering a sprained left wrist while sliding feet first for a fly ball that he ultimately didn't catch. This will open the door for more playing time for Jacoby Ellsbury. No more splitting time. —1B Paul Konerko was moved out of his usual No. 4 spot in the order, switching with No. 5 hitter Jermaine Dye. Konerko should get better looks at the place now. —1B Miguel Cabrera's RBI slump continues. Cabrera got two hits Tuesday but still didn't drive in a run. He's been without an RBI for 10 straight games now. I’ve said it before, he’ll be the biggest disappointment of the year after all the hype and the money. —RHP Joakim Soria worked a perfect ninth to log his ninth save in as many chances. Doesn’t cost much, and will get 30+ saves by year end. —RHP Chien-Ming Wang is receiving 1.75 runs of support per game in his last four starts. This is horrible for Wang owners, but the good news is he’s not losing, and his ERA and WHIP aren’t moving up. —C Kurt Suzuki went 0-for-4 and is 0-for-18 on the trip and 0-for-20 dating to the homestand. I like this kid, but the slump is turning many Fantasy owners off. I don’t think it’s time to dump here, because after going 0-20, he can only look up from here. —RF Wladimir Balentien has struck out five times in his past seven at-bats, including three strikeouts Tuesday. Rookies like Balentien who aren’t disciplined hitters tend to hurt more than help. —RHP Edwin Jackson had a second consecutive stellar outing, throwing seven shutout innings to run his scoreless streak to 15, but he had nothing to show for it. For the second time in five days, he left with a lead and Troy Percival blew the save. This cast off has been great this year. He’s a much start in all your leagues. —LHP Eddie Guardado picked up the save Tuesday in place of fatigued LHP C.J. Wilson. Everyday Eddie will get 5-7 saves this year. Not a bad pickup in many leagues. —LHP B.J. Ryan has yet to give up a run this season. Ryan collected his sixth save Tuesday and has not allowed a run in 11 innings. Again, another cheap closer, who’ll help, not hurt your team. —C Miguel Montero is hitting .344 in 32 at-bats since joining the D-backs on April 23 after a rehab assignment. Chris Snyder can’t be happy about this. The good news for Snyder though is that since Montero has come back, his bat as been on fire too. —1B Mark Teixeira, who left the first game of Monday's doubleheader with back spasms, missed the next two games. Keep an eye on Big Tex, back spasms don’t go well with power hitters. —RHP Jair Jurrjens might still be an option to start Friday in Atlanta after he threw only 69 pitches Monday against the Pirates, which may make it possible for him to start on short rest. Adjust your pitchers schedule accordingly. —2B Dan Uggla (12) and SS Hanley Ramirez (9) have the most home runs of any middle-infield combination in the majors. Who needs Miguel Cabrera? These two guys are flat out studs. —C J.R. Towles snapped an 0-for-20 slump in the second inning with a two-out single up the middle. See Wilson Balentien. —1B James Loney tripled to lead off the fourth inning, extending his hitting streak to six games. He is batting .364 (8-for-22) during the streak. He also has hit safely in eight of his past nine games, and he had a 15-game hitting streak earlier this season. Loney is a pure hitting machine. He showed flashes of brilliance a year ago, and under the watchful eye of hitting coach Mike Easler will continue to be one of the best hitting first baseman in the NL. —RF Corey Hart entered play Tuesday with a .419 batting average with runners in scoring position, the top mark in the National League. Hart is one of those special hitters. He’s a five tool guy that doesn’t make the papers for some reason. —.136: SS Jose Reyes' batting average over the last seven games. Tough, tough, tough choice here. In RotoHog, you may want to cut your loses. In your traditional leagues, I go after him hard in a trade…BUY LOW —1B Ryan Howard continues to show signs of snapping out of his early-season slump. Howard slugged an opposite-field home run Saturday in San Francisco. On Sunday, he smashed a triple to right-field at cavernous AT&T Park. And, on Tuesday night against the Braves, Howard picked up two hits, including an RBI single in the fifth inning, to extend his hitting streak to five games. Another BUY LOW player. Now is the time to get him on your team(s). —RHP Brian Wilson recorded his league-leading 12th save Tuesday, and he has converted 11 of his past 12 save opportunities. Cheap closers = more money for better starting pitchers and offensive players. These guys on “losing” teams will still collect you 25-30 saves in over the course of the season. —1B Albert Pujols extended his string of games in which he reached base to 40 by walking in the first inning. He later homered to extend his hitting streak to 12 games. Wrist injury? Says who? Pujols obviously is still one, if not the best hitter in the NL. He dropped in many leagues because of concerns over his wrist, but that has not played a factor to this point in the season. Again Fantasy Owners, staying ahead of the your competition will help you succeed in your leagues. Know who’s in, and who’s out makes a big difference when deciding on your daily or weekly players. Every Wednesday right here, you’ll get latest player information to help guide you towards your championship. Good luck, and we’ll see you Friday with your weekend tips. |

Favorite Sport Baseball Sports Played: Baseball, Soccer, Football, Basketball Favorite covering sports moment: Getting to sit down and talk to Hall-of-Famer Duke Snider for two hours. We discussed the Brooklyn Dodgers day and their great teams, Jackie Robinson, and him being amongst the best OF'ers of his time. What a great man! If I was an athlete I would be like: Michael Jordan. This was a guy that took basketball to a whole new level. Larry Bird and Magic Johnson were great for the NBA, but Jordan rose above the game and his influence can be seen in many of today's great players. CategoriesADVERTISEMENT
