3 Up - 3 Down

As we get ready for a weekend of Fantasy Baseball, I wanted to point out once again that matchups, like in real baseball, play a factor in determining who should start on your fantasy team. Today, I'll point out three players who have favorably matchups as well as those players you should probably stay away from.

It's important to keep in mind as well here at RotoHog, your innings per position. JIB-JAB pointed this out in his this weeks WTF episode and I want to nail home that point. Last season, many Fantasy Owners, by mid-summer, had already meet the maximum amount of innings and were done with the game. Don't make the same mistake. You can see the number of inning each positions has played at the bottom of your teams page. Stay focused on that, and don't get caught going over the maximum innings allowed.

Now, here are three players who have great matchups going into this weekends play:

Curtis Granderson - Detriot Tigers – OF - $17.53 : Granderson faces the Seattle Mariners this weekend, and to me, is a great buy at $17.53. Against Felix Hernandez, who pitches Saturday, Grandesron has a .667 batting average against and one home run. Then on Sunday, Miguel Batista takes the bump for the Mariners. Against Batista lifetime, Granderson is batting .300 with two home runs.

Orlando Hudson – Arizona Diamondbacks – 2B - $14.08
: Orlando Hudson has been hot of late, and is a player many Fantasy Owners have stayed away from for some reason. If you're looking for a cheap 2B, Hudson should be your guy. Hudson faces Jason Bergmann and Shawn Hill of the Washington Nationals, two pitchers he's hit well over his career. Against Bergmann, Hudson is hitting .400 with one homerun, and against Hill is batting .600. This is a great opportunity to jump on a cheap player who should have success this weekend.

BJ Upton – Tampa Bay Rays – OF - $18.76 : Upton has two monster matchups this weekend. The first is against Chicago White Sox starter Javier Vazquez who he's hitting .714. On Sunday, Mark Buehrle will try to get Upton out. Buehrle like Vazquez hasn't had much success in getting Upton out as he is batted .571 lifetime. The price is right for RotoHog Owners, don't miss out on a great player for under $20.

These players you should probably avoid this weekend as they've struggled in their matchups over their careers.

Nick Swisher – Chicago White Sox – OF - $14.15 : Coming into this season, many “Experts” had Nick Swisher dominating at bat. The total opposite has happened so far. It doesn't get any easier for Swisher as he faces the dominating pitching (did I just say that) of the Tampa Bay Rays. On Saturday Scott Kazmir tries to mow down Swisher. Over Swishers career, when facing Kazmir he's only batting .176. On Sunday, Andy Sonnanstine will look to shut down Swisher. Sonnanstine, like Kazmir, has baffled Swisher, who he's only batted .143. Swisher right now is not worth a roster spot. Don't be fooled by his On Base Percentage (OBP), it's just not worth it.

Tori Hunter – Anaheim Angeles – OF - $26.20
: Tori Hunter has a tough matchup this weekend as the Angeles face the Toronto Blue Jays. Shaun Marcum and A.J. Burnett have had Hunters number over the years. Both pitchers have keep Hunter .200 and each has only given up one home run. Hunter is a decent player, but this weekend, my suggestion is to sit him for someone else.

Adrian Gonzalez – San Diego – 1B - $20.31 : Gonzalez has been a masher so far this season. Many “Experts” didn't see Gonzalez duplicating the numbers from a year ago, but so far, he's on pace to past them. This weekend though, might not be the weekend you want to have him starting for your team. San Diego takes on the San Francisco Giants this weekend, and the Giants plan on throwing Patrick Misch and the hot Tim Lincecum. Both of these pitchers have keep Gonzalez in check. Against Misch, Gonzalez is only batting .200, and it doesn't get any easier against Lincecum where he's batting .182. Gonzalez is right for the price, but it just doesn't fair well for him this weekend.

The players above are just a sample size of the information needed when looking to put your team together. Make sure you looking into similar type numbers. You can find this information on many Internet sites. Use it to your advantage and you won't be disappointed.

Favorite covering sports moment: Getting to sit down and talk to Hall-of-Famer Duke Snider for two hours. We discussed the Brooklyn Dodgers day and their great teams, Jackie Robinson, and him being amongst the best OF'ers of his time. What a great man!

If I was an athlete I would be like: Michael Jordan. This was a guy that took basketball to a whole new level. Larry Bird and Magic Johnson were great for the NBA, but Jordan rose above the game and his influence can be seen in many of today's great players.
