A one, a two, a three…Take me out to the balllll game.” Finally, the boys of summer are back at spring training. With familiar names like Barry Bonds, Roger Clemens, and Craig Biggio no longer in major league camps, the official stamp of, “You’re getting old” is starting to settle in. See, when I first started playing Fantasy Baseball in the early 1990’s, those three were the Alex Rodriguez, Johan Santana, and Chase Utley’s of today’s game. No I'm not mixing a drink, those are just the things that can happen to a player during spring training. With weird and unusual injuries popping up all around spring training, it’s actually nice to see these headlines rather than the taboo word…STERIODS on every fish wrap. Freakish accidents happen all the time. My question is how do some of these accidents happen? Read more »![]() Red Sox Players Rule!!!

Did I just say that? A long time New York fan, I was brought up to hate the Boston Red Sox. Jim Rice, Fred Lynn, Roger Clemens, and Wade Boggs were words that were not allowed to be mentioned in my house. On Oct 2,1978, Bucky Dent nailed a game-winning home run over the green monster and to this my family and I still celebrate the date. The best day to me though, was Oct 27, 1986, the day the New York Mets helped continue the curse and won the World Series . Bill Buckner is still one of my favorite Mets players. How else do you explain the slow roller between the legs? Read more »![]() MLB Opening Day

As I finished my TOUT Wars draft this weekend in New York, it struck me that Opening Day in Major League Baseball was just hours away. Yet, I don't feel the same rush that I've felt over the last few years. I'm not sure if it because the games are opening in Japan or if it's because it's the Boston Red Sox and Oakland A's playing and not my team, the New York Mets. Did you watch the game on Tuesday morning? Read more »![]() Greco: What annoys me

Yesterday I had a Boston Red Sox fan get all up in my grill about how the Sox were in first place and the New York Yankees were tied for last. Listen Red Sox Nation, I know over the last couple of weeks I’ve been bashing the Nation, saying how you’d finish in third behind the Tampa Bay Rays, but to be honest, you all have become more annoying than the Evil Empire followers. The first week of the Major League Baseball season is always one of my busiest e-mailing weeks. For some reason people want to jump ship from their teams and wait for next year. My word of advice, let the first month play out and than make your decision. Today, I'm going to share with you some of the e-mails I've received over the last couple days of Fantasy Owners wondering what to do. The names will changed to protect the innocent. This first e-mail comes from John: “Apr 1 1B Prince Fielder, who became the youngest player to swat 50 home runs last season at 23, hit just one homer in 75 plate appearances in spring training. Lets get ready for the weekend matchups. For me there are a couple of pitching matchups that look to favor a few pitchers I'd like to point out. Here's a breakdown of five lesser priced pitchers that could help you this weekend. Brian Bannister : Kansas City Royals vs Oakland A's: $16.98 Brian Bannister is off to a great start in 2008. With a 2.6 K/BB ratio, Bannister is a pitcher who doesn't hurt himself. Bannister has already beat three of the toughest teams in the American League, the Detroit Tigers, Minnesota Twins and the New York Yankees. In those three game Bannister has only allowed two earned runs and 10 hits in 22 innings. Read more »![]() Why I Still Love RotoHog's Fantasy Games
paul greco · April 23rd, 2008
If you haven't heard the story of how I became a Rotohogaholic than turn off the tv, sit back in your captains desk chair and enjoy this little journey with me. In January of 2007 I was contacted by the creator of RotoHog, Mr. David Wu, about a new and interesting Fantasy Baseball game he called RotoHog. He promised me that it was unlike any other Fantasy game out there and I should give it a shot. At the time I was thinking to myself, “This dude is crazy. A game where you mix money and players, and have to keep up every day with roster changes, it'll never work.” After two days of playing with the interface, looking into different strategies, I was hooked. Profile: Since high school, Paul has had a blast playing Fantasy Sports. The guy lives and breathes it. From the strategy on draft day, to making trades or working the waiver wire, he loves the fantasy game. What Paul hates are the fantasy experts who tell you what to do with your team, but don’t do the same thing on their fantasy teams. Paul wants to show you how he consistently wins his leagues and what he does to win them. Paul does not want to just write articles to tell you what you should do, he wants you to feel as though you are on his team. Paul is co-owner of Gotham Sports Media , Gotham Baseball Magazine and Gotham Sports Radio and is a Principle Engineer with General Dynamics in San Antonio, TX. Paul is also the voice of RotoHog.com and has appeared on ESPN Radio, WIP in Philadelphia, and KALL 700 Sports in Salt Lake City. Listen to him every on the weekly Internet show, Talking Baseball, every Wednesday night at 8pm ET. Paul, is also a highly decorated veteran of the United States Air Force for 10 years served in Operation Iraqi Freedom, Operation Northern Watch, and Operation Southern Watch. Born: Amityville, NY -- Yes, that's right the same place as the horror show. Explains a lot huh? Favorite Sport Baseball Sports Played: Baseball, Soccer, Football, Basketball Favorite covering sports moment: Getting to sit down and talk to Hall-of-Famer Duke Snider for two hours. We discussed the Brooklyn Dodgers day and their great teams, Jackie Robinson, and him being amongst the best OF'ers of his time. What a great man! If I was an athlete I would be like: Michael Jordan. This was a guy that took basketball to a whole new level. Larry Bird and Magic Johnson were great for the NBA, but Jordan rose above the game and his influence can be seen in many of today's great players. CategoriesADVERTISEMENT
