Today we’re catching numbers 7-13. It’s easier than catching a dog that ran out onto the field during a Florida Marlins game, right Jennifer Anniston and Owen Wilson? Oh wait, you weren’t really trying to catch the dog, you were filming a movie! (That reminds me, I’m still mad at Drew Barrymore and Jimmy Fallon for being on the field during the REAL Red Sox World Series win for Fever Pitch.)

#7) As in the 7 disposable razors Fredi Gonzalez distributed to his 7 relievers after the Florida Marlins April 30th loss to the Los Angeles Dodgers. My last blog about facial hair must have struck a cord with Gonzalez. All the Marlins relievers were growing mustaches together but their Skipper put an end to it when the bullpen took a turn for the worse. Gonzalez said he is a believer in karma…I think he meant superstition.

#8) For Jason Isringhausen who holds down the number 8 spot among active pitchers on the saves list. On April 30th, Izzy moved passed Armando Benitez for 22nd on the ALL-TIME saves list when the redbirds defeated the Cincinnati Reds 5-2. The Cardinals closer is 10 saves away from tying Bruce Sutter who currently holds the 21st spot with 300 saves. That same Cardinals victory also notched a franchise record 18 wins in the month of April.

#9) The 9.67 earned-run average of now retired pitcher Matt Morris. The two-time All-Star player was released by the Pittsburgh Pirates on April 27th. After going 0-4 this year, Morris decided his time would be better spent off the bump and spending the $11 million the Pirates would still owe him for the remainder of his contract plus a buyout.

10) Well 10x4= 40. 40 year-old pitcher John Smoltz was placed on the 15 day DL on April 30th with biceps tendonitis. But that didn’t stop Smoltz from letting everyone know his plans for when he gets off the disabled list! Smoltz believes he will comeback as a reliever. I bet you the Braves are hoping Smoltz can turn back the hands of time to his 2001-2004 days where he had franchise record 154 saves in 168 tries. Hey, I’m not going to doubt the only pitcher in Major League history to have 200 wins AND 150 saves.

#11) “You see, most blokes, you know, will be playing at ten. Where can you go from there? Where? Eleven. Exactly. One louder.” This spot is reserved for the men out there who turn their power dial up to eleven! Like these “blokes”:

• Chipper Jones who is batting .417 right now. Go Larry, GO!
• Rafael Furcal hit his 4th home run of the season on May 3rd and drove in four runs for his first four RBI game of this season. As a side note, Furcal has reached base safely in all 29 of the LA’s games and is also batting .380
• Albert Pujols is hitting .364 and is scaring pitchers into submission…or just making them want to walk him. Pujols leads the Majors in base on balls with 32 and counting!
• Josh Hamilton is turning up the volume to eleven and maybe beyond! He’s leading the Majors with 32 RBI and hit his first career granny on May 1st.

#12) As in a 5 ½ by 12 inch canceled check you could own, if the price is right! Now why would you want to own a canceled check? Of course this is not just any check; it was written in 1922 and is endorsed by one Harry Frazee. You devoted Red Sox fans out there should know the name and curse it, right? Yup, Frazee was the one who sent the Babe away. So, if you want to own the check the Yanks drew up for Babe Ruth…check out Historic Auctions in St. Petersburg, Florida. This item will be a bit out of this girl’s price range!!

#13) For the over 1390 runs scored for Derek Jeter! Now this Yankee is sitting in some pretty good company! On MAY 2nd Jeter scored in the first inning of the Yankees-Mariners game giving him 1391 career runs scored. Jeter passed Joe DiMaggio for fourth place on the Yankees' all-time list. Derek still has a way to go to catch the Babe though, I am sure there will be no shortage of ladies cheering him on!

Babe Ruth 1959
Lou Gehrig 1888
Mickey Mantle 1677
Derek Jeter 1391
Joe DiMaggio 1390
