Welcome to RotoHog's opening day. After all the hard work we've put into the game we're excited to finally throw open the doors and welcome everyone in. I've been writing about RotoHog.com for a while now, but this will be my first season doing so as a part of the RotoHog team. In the few short weeks between now and opening day I'll be going over many of the basics of the game as well as some of the strategies you'll need to finish at the top. My goal is to give all my readers the skills and tools needed to finish in the prestigious (and lucrative) Top 100 at the end of the year. Read more »![]() My thoughts on RotoHog Strategy

Well, the Red Sox ended their short-lived boycott and got on the plane to Japan. That means you only have 4 more days to get ready. If you haven’t made your gameplan for the coming season, you’d better get on it. Like I said before, my goal is to get as many of you into the top 100 as I can. In light of that, let’s get straight to strategizing. RULES Paul has said this a couple of times, but if you’re serious about doing well, go read the rules and then read them again. We hope that most of the game will be pretty intuitive, but you don’t want any surprises. TRADING Read more »![]() JibJab's "Bloggy Bloggy Blog"

A lot of you are probably wondering why I haven’t been blogging as much as I did on my football site last season, so let me explain. Most of you probably don’t know this, but I actually came in about 170th place in baseball last year, a full 169 spots worse than my goal. So, this season I decided to switch it up a bit and abandon my strategies in favor of exclusive reliance on the advice of my fellow blogger Jocelyn. So far a week of q-max explanations, chin music clarifications, and backpack jokes has left me in 5,921st place. I think I’m going to go back to doing this myself. Read more »![]() Off Days and BABIP

At this point last season I believe my team value was around $800; this year I’m sitting at $326. Part of the blame goes to RotoHog for making me work instead of letting me trade all day. However, the new transaction fee system has kept all but a handful of teams from straying far above that first fee increase at $350. If you’re over that line you should feel pretty good about where you stand. If you’re like me and you’re still under it I strongly suggest putting some effort into raising your team value. A key piece of strategy in this year’s RotoHog game is managing your starting pitchers. The new 5-day waiver lock on SPs has had a pretty significant effect on which strategies are viable and which are not. Let’s take a look at the 3 best strategies as I see them, and the pros and cons of each. Read more »![]() Biggest Losers

With over 40 games behind us in the MLB season, the pre-season trading floor prices that date back as far as March 1st are a distant memory for most of us. However, I think there is a lot to be learned form looking at those numbers. Read more »![]() RotoHog Popularity Contest

If you haven’t checked it out already, there is a number of interesting data tidbits available on the RotoHog player pages. One of these is trade volume rank. All players display a rank from 1st to last based on the number of transactions they’ve been involved in. Today I’m going to look at the top 5 most popularly traded RotoHog players. These 5 “cool kids” of the RotoHog universe are traded roughly 8 times as often as the average player. #1 Lance Berkman (1B - Hou) I doubt this is a huge shock to anyone. Berkman is the top scorer by a wide margin this season and has seen his price soar to as much as $55 after opening at $27.50. Berkman is a fantastic hitter and you’d do well to have him in your lineup, but it’s doubtful that he can keep up his current level of production. Read more » |
