I’m having fun watching all of these new formations and direct snaps to running backs. It is getting by defenses, but I think that will stop soon enough. We did a little bit of it when I played, but not very much and not like this. I’ve seen half a dozen teams use this type of play and it has worked very well - until now.

Whenever I see a new offense or new batch of trick plays, I know it won’t take long for the defenses to catch up. Same thing happens when a quarterback comes off the bench and does really well. Give a coordinator a week or two of game tape, and some time to figure it out, and he will stop it if he has the personnel to do it. I think that means a slow decline for Ronnie Brown and the rest of the players thriving on the direct snap and wildcat formations unless they throw a new wrinkle in. That could mean big fantasy points for RBs throwing touchdown passes this week. Especially as many of them used to be quarterbacks in high school and are such good athletes to begin with.

As far as other fantasy running backs, take a look at the young running backs, particular the rookies. They have fresh leagues as we used to say. Darren McFadden, Matt Forte, Adrian Peterson, Reggie Bush and Felix Jones will do well over the next couple of weeks. Players like Brian Westbrook, LT, Larry Johnson, Jamal Lewis and others are dinged up and tired. They will be hit and miss, working through injuries all year, and not giving a consistent performance. Take a player like Marion Barber. A big year last year and this year he struggles. It’s very difficult to repeat a season like that. It’s a good thing they have the rookie there to help him out in Jones. I’m also very interested to see what Cedric Benson does this week. He looked solid on 10 carries last week and could be the starter soon. He’s an excellent athlete and it’s hard to keep guys like that off the field.
