1. Chicago – Derrick Rose, PG, Memphis
This will be a tough pick for the Bulls. Beasley was the consensus #1 for the whole season, until Rose had a magical NCAA Tournament. In the end, the Bulls will opt for the PG based on the effect that players like Chris Paul and Deron Williams have had on their teams.
2. Miami – Michael Beasley, PF, Kansas State
No brainer for Miami. An unbelievable talent, and an all-star in waiting if he can keep his head screwed on straight, and his car away from South Beach.
3. Minnesota – O. J. Mayo, SG, USC
Seems to be the hottest name at the top of the draft...so expect the Wolves to follow public opionion and add Mayo to their sandwich.
4. Clippers – Russell Westbrook, SG, UCLA
Clippers go local. Westbrook is good...but this pick is about putting more UCLA fans in the seats of the Staples Center.
5. Memphis – Kevin Love, C, UCLA
A team with more swing players then the Mighty Mighty Bostones needs someone big for Michael Conley to lob the ball to (ala Chris Paul to Tyson Chandler). Jordan is a legitimate 7 footer with off the charts athleticism and the talent (not that he always showed it one the court) of a top 5 pick.
6. New York – Eric Gordon Jr., SG, Indiana
With Isiah gone...the Knicks need to replenish their stock of former Hoosiers.
7. Los Angeles Clippers – Brooke Lopez, C, Stanford
The Clips would be fortunate to see the ultra-talented Bayless on the board at this point. Another option at this point would be to take local product Russell Westbrook.
8. Milwaukee – Jared Bayless, PG, Arizona
They need to get Redd and Jefferson the ball.
9. Charlotte – Danillo Galarini
With no North Carolina players deserving of a pick this high (Charlotte has taken a Tarheel in the first round in 3 of the 8 drafts in franchise history, the team will have to go in another direction. They opt for someone no one has ever heard of..going for the all or nothing approach.
10. New Jersey – Joe Alexander
Jefferson out...Alexander a power player that can play the 3 in.
11. Indiana – Anthony Randolph
Oneal out, Randolph in. He is a rare talent, that is a little on the raw side. He is a high ceiling guy who is one of the top 5 players in the draft on talent alone. At this point in the first round, a player with so may skills would be hard to pass up
12. Sacramento – D.J. Agustin, PG, Texas
Augustin is a proven floor leader, and would be a good building block for a Kings team that seems to be starting down the barrel of a rebuilding effort.
13. Portland – Kosta Kofus, C, Ohio State
Could the Blazers possible go back-to-back years taking a center from Ohio State? I say yes. Koufus is more of a perimeter oriented big man, so he could potentially compliment Oden. Additionally, he will provide some depth in case the man giant is not quite ready to go full speed at the start of the season.
14. Golden State – Donte Green, SF, Syracuse
Green seems to be a good fit for Nelly’s system. He is long, athletic, can get up and down the court, and knock down the mid-range jumper.
15. Phoenix - Marreese Speights, C, Florida
In my opinion, Phoenix one of the hardest teams to predict. With D’Antoni leaving will they change to a more defensive style of play? My guess is yes, which would lead them to Marreese Speights, a tough, athletic, big man who can block a shot or two.
16. Philadelphia – Darrell Arthur, PF, Kansas
Arthur is a skilled big man who would be a nice compliment to the guard heavy Sixers roster.
17. Toronto – Brandon Rush, SG, Kansas
Toronto took two steps forward in 2007, and one step back in 2008. Bringing in a winner like Rush, who is ready to play now, could really give them a push back in the right direction.
18. Washington – Mario Chalmers
Agent 0 to Superintendent Chalmers
19. Cleveland – Robin Lopez
Cleveland is kind of an enigma at this point. What does Lebron need to get him over the top?
20. Denver – Roy Hibbert
The Nuggets are a team in transition as they ponder a trade of Carmelo Anthony. Alexander is a borderline lottery pick talent, who has the versatility to play the 3 or the 4.
21. New Jersey – Alexis Ajinca
22. Orlando - Nicolas Batum, SF, France
Batum is a talented swingman who would fit right in Orlando as another piece to surround franchise centerpiece Dwight Howard.
23. Utah - JaVale McGee, C, Nevada
McGee is a little raw, but has been shooting up draft rankings based on his potential. He seems to make sense for the Jazz here based on the fact that he would be a nice change of pace from current pivot man Mehmet Okur
24. Seattle – Deandre Jordan
25. Houston – JJ Hickson
26. San Antonio – Ante Tomic, C, Croatia
I think that the San Antonio scouting department is barred from working in the United States. They have gone international with their first pick in the last 5 drafts. The trend continues with the highly skilled big man from Croatia.
27. New Orleans – Courtney Lee, SG, Western Kentucky
In order to continue to be a franchise on the rise, all they need to do is continue to find pieces to help support super stud Chris Paul. Ellington is a gifted shooter, and will give Paul another option on the drive and kick.
28. Memphis – D.J. White, PF, Indiana
Memphis needs to continue to accumulate big bodies. White had a breakout year in the Big 10. With his experience and toughness, he would be an asset to Memphis early in his career.
29. Detroit – Ty Lawson, PG, North Carolina
Chanuncy Billups is an important cog in the Detroit machine. These playoffs have shown that they struggle a little without his play-making ability. The lightning quick Lawson would make a great understudy.
30. Boston – Chris Douglas-Roberts
